SEEKING VOLUNTEERS TO BEAUTIFY BRONSON
The town is enlisting volunteers to assist with minor renovations to the Bronson Public Library at 600 Gilbert Street on the morning of Saturday, May 20th. Examples of minor exterior renovations include pressure washing the building. Examples of minor interior renovations include repairing the drywall, painting the interior of the building, and cleaning the windows and the carpet. Volunteers will meet at Town Hall at 10:00 AM. If you are interested in assisting with the minor renovations, please contact Town Manager Sue Beaudet via telephone at 352.486.2354 or via email at townmanager@townofbronson.org. GFL Environmental plans to have roll-off containers delivered to Town Hall on Friday, May 19th and picked up from Town Hall on Monday, May 22nd. The roll-off dumpsters are for depositing furniture, passenger vehicle tires, appliances, carpet, etc.
“Town Councilor Tyler Voorhees is planning on cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for all of the volunteers, so as long as the weather cooperates, it should be a very fun day for all involved in the renovation effort,” says Town Manager Sue Beaudet.

The Town of Bronson is the county seat of Levy County, and referred to as the “Heart of Levy County”. Originally known as “Chunky Pond”, it was founded by James C. Bronson in 1839. Bronson was a friend of David Levy Yulee, an early United States senator for whom Levy County is named, and who is credited with first bringing the railroad to west Florida. The railroad, which ran from Fernando Beach to Cedar Key passed through the Town of Bronson.
The original settlement of Bronson consisted of a saw mill and trading post. Logging was a big industry in the area, as was the growing of citrus. The area around Bronson reportedly had about 75 different orange groves. In the early years, Bronson was a crossroads town and an important stop along the route of the railroad, but as the land began to be logged out, the hard freezes in the 1890s destroyed the orange groves. Levy County provides Bronson with a local library branch. The Bronson Public Library was built by the Felburn Foundation founder, J. Phil Felburn. The Levy County Public Library System is a member of PAL (Putnam, Alachua and Levy County Public Library Cooperative).
